Alternative music trio Neon Fields hail from the Southwest of the UK and combine industrial rock with cinematic soundscapes to create their own distinctive sound that drips in aching passion and emotion. Formed two years ago, members Ed Barrett (lead vocals), Luke Russe (drums) and Piers Ward (keyboards/guitar), are set to drop their first full length release this summer, following the success of their debut EP, Neon Fields – EP 1, introducing them to the world.
Now they’re back with a new single, titled “Meant To Be”, venturing into new waters with their most commercial writing to date. On their latest effort, dark textures pair with delicate, melody-focused vocal work to create music that’s eerie and captivatingly written, on a track that’s planned to be the lead single of the upcoming album.
Intended to tell the story of unrequited love and sinister obsession, “Meant To Be” lulls the listener with a mesmerising intro before building to a crashing crescendo finale. Commenting on the new song, they share, “We wanted to write a love song with a twist. The first verse sounds like it will be a standard love song but as we go into the first chorus we find out that it’s unrequited. Not only that but ‘she’ feels the need to hide from ‘him’…”
Deep and moody, as the sound evolves and reflects the shifting dynamic of the relationship it depicts, frantic synth lines and punching drums drive the energy with Ed Barrett’s vocals soaring above, delivering a blissful synth rock piece and taste of what’s to come from Neon Fields.
