Multi-instrumentalist from Victoria, Canada, John Sklove has recently unveiled his latest project, Delujn. With the new endeavour, he puts his musical talents to work, laying down a range of instrumentation and vocals on top; only the drums were performed by another musician with John McEntire offering percussion performance recorded at Soma Studios.
The new artist brings us his debut release with the fresh single Ride In Chains. With his introduction, he offers the perfect taste of his dreamy desert rock sound that channels the styles of contemporaries such as Cat Power, Cass McCombs and Beach House, while nodding back to the classic writing of legendary artists Chrissie Hynde, Neil Young and Echo & The Bunnymen.
Paired with the studio version release comes an accompanying lyric video, the perfect visual pairing to reflect the psychedelic sound of the music.
Crafting a blissfully smoky soundscape full of light, lazy rhythms, twangy spaced out guitar-led backing and piquant instrumental touches, his vocals lull breezily above with a restrained delivery that engages and hypnotises. Lyrically, he pens thoughtful words preoccupied with colossal angst, half-truths and the the sudden shock of finding the deep end is rather shallow.
The full release of the single comprises of four versions, both with vocals and purely instrumental, with radio edits of both variations. The perfect soundtrack for a foggy drive, “Ride In Chains” is a statement from an artist that has a great deal to offer both as a writer but also as an instrumental performer.
