MC, producer and DJ Juskolmeal (an amalgamation of ‘Jus Call Me Al’ – a sentence and statement all in one) has had a prolific career since starting out in college radio at WCOW at Old Westbury in the mid 90’s. Early on he also appeared on TV shows and local radio stations as he brought the jams to the airwaves, it was then he decided to work on his own music projects.
With two studio albums released, Roosevelt High in 2009 and 2020’s Heavy Is The Head, he’s won critical acclaim for his mix of old skool lyricism and hard beats that birthed the hip hop culture. Nodding back to the artists that inspired him, he’s on a mission to bring traditional early hip hop vibes to younger generations.
The charismatic artist points to the three songs that stand out most in his career so far. “Jungle”, with its lo-fi sonic style and verses delivered to educate about the pros and cons of choices. “Bible For The Streets” offers an emotional trip about how people need to wisely choose their path in the hip hop game. And finally, “Show U How”, a song built on a feel good beat with hook-driven vocals that sees the artist open up to listeners about who he is and what his life is like.
Juskomeal has plans for a new album on the horizon and brings us his latest work with the new single “The Boulevard”. Linking up with LakeithRashard, the pair draw on their own split experiences coming from their different generations and backgrounds to make a modern rap masterpiece that pays respects to the roots their influences come from.
Paired with the new single, which was produced by Dreamlife Beats at RMG studios in New York, comes an accompanying music video to perfectly capture the classic hip hop feel of the track on the screen.
