Young & Spaced drops debut album

Hailing from Bristol, a city brimming with electronic producer pioneers and steeped in musical history, artist Jamie Hall releases music under the Young & Spaced alias. Classically trained as a child, he grew restless with the rigidity of traditional music disciplines and hoped to explore his passion for electronic music. Stumbling upon the album Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers in a bargain bin of an HMV, his musical horizons expanded and his sonic vision came into sharp focus.

As a dental student in Sheffield by day, he wrote and worked on his own music by night as an escape, before moving back to his home city into the South West where he began to lay the foundations for his debut album Back For Dessert.

With his introductory full length release, he offers a fluid exploration of an electronic world unchained by genre and that’s entirely his own. At times stripped back and minimal with restrained vocal lines sitting atop grimey buzzing synths and mechanic percussion, at other times, buoyant and upbeat such as the split tracks “Back” parts one and two.

Thoroughly enjoyable, always intriguing, on Back For Dessert the artist lays down a truly original body of work that delights throughout as his common thread of melodic writing and rhythmic grooves cut through his various style and sound switch ups.

Commenting on the album, he offers, “It was always my intention to blur the arbitrary lines between singer-songwriter and producer/DJ and as such the album embraces both the instrumental and the lyrical, each giving way to the other as and when necessary. Themes vary from the inane and immature to the existential but with a sense of optimism and naivety which pervades throughout.”
