Originally hailing from Boston, singer-songwriter Betty Reed has since found a home in the musical city of Nashville, Tennessee. Drawing on her own lived experiences for inspiration, she covers themes of coping with depression which echo through her writing and creative vision. Often serious in context, her music is masked with an upbeat vibe and a tinge of optimism as she navigates the darkness to find the light.
With her debut EP, titled Mistakes Made, Lessons Learned and released last year, she gave a worthy introduction of her writing and performance abilities. Following this she wanted to create a stripped down version of those six songs by changing up the tempo and key and laying down a simple acoustic guitar and percussion arrangement.
Collaborating with Nashville producer Evan Redwine, who brought on acoustic guitarist Nate Dugger and percussionist Josh Hunt, Betty Reed gives the stripped-down songs a multi-layered, rich sound which allow her vocals and lyrics to take a more focused centre-stage framing.
Delivering a more intimate and vulnerable sound, the re-imagined EP reveals an accomplished songwriter with incredible talent to offer in more ways than one. Across the release her vocals softly soar, carrying poignant lyrical work above a perfect arrangement of delicate instrumentation.
