Philadelphia-based alternative rock duo Hypothetical are on a mission to bring the early 2000s sound of artists such as Jimmy Eat World and the Foo Fighters to the present day. Formed by Matt Feldman, on vocals, guitar and keys, and Sean O’Neil on guitar, bass, keys and drums, the pair offer their full band self-produced sound of catchy rock.
The two musicians have been lifelong friends, having met in kindergarten before buying their first guitars together in high school and vowing to started a band when they returned to Philadelphia from college. The bond they’ve shared over the years is at the core of their cohesive music, which has also seen them open for Gus Dapperton in Atlanta.
Now they bring us their latest single, with the new track “Goodbye” which was recoded by the band themselves between Atlanta and Tannersville in Pennsylvania. The song is about getting the closure needed from a past relationship that was held onto for too long, creating the soundtrack to say ‘goodbye’ and finally put it to rest.
Wrapped up in an upbeat pop rock sound, it delivers a strong nostalgia for the early 2000s rock that so heavily influences Hypothetical. Hook-driven and perfectly produced, their latest single shows a band capable of making superb rock music with commercial appeal.
