26 year old singer-songwriter AL22 hails from East London and creates his own unique brand of energetic pop. Despite being a very new artist, he’s already caught the attention of fans and taste makers alike, which has seen him selected for Track of The Week by BBC Introducing in London as well as receiving radio support across the UK.
With his debut track, “I Don’t Mind” he made his introduction and set the tone for what he has to offer; infectiously catchy and upbeat modern music with bags of commercial appeal.
Now he’s back with a follow up track, titled “Deserve To Be Loved”, a melodically-focused track with AL22 taking a trip into deep house vibes. A melancholic pop anthem, “Deserve To Be Loved” was penned to the artist himself. Full of ear-worm hooks, punching beats, thumping bass and AL22’s smooth and emphatic vocal work, his new single is a statement from an artist who knows he has a lot to offer.
Commenting on the track, he shares, “I created this song as an open and honest reflection on my past relationship. I witnessed a lot of narcissistic behaviour from my ex-partner that impacted my mental state. It wasn’t until something clicked one year later, that I realised I was unhappy and forgot who I was. During the session, I kept hearing the melodies “I won’t let anyone hurt you / your body deserves to be loved” over and over again. I must have been going crazy but in hindsight, it is something I needed to instil in myself. Healing leads to self love, and I recently re-discovered that.”
Adding, “I was influenced by the sounds of Ina Wroldsen and Rufus Du Sol. Their often dark soundscape, and candid lyricism allowed me to be open minded and write directly from the heart about my emotions; something I struggle to talk about in general. It is basically therapy… a self help anthem. I wrote the song, recorded and mixed the vocals myself. I self-produced the song, but later collaborated alongside a wonderful producer called TGG to give it more of a polished lift and desired sound.”
