Sock Revival releases new album

Sock Revival began in 2017 when the Philadelphia-based artist started to upload some of his songs to Soundcloud before going on to release the debut album Whispers from Sock Mountain the following year. Emulating the melodic and jangly rock sounds of artists such as Real Estate and Mac DeMarco, and the solo guitar playing style like Mississippi John Hurt and Nick Drake, Sock Revival offers a melancholic and nostalgic journey with his songs.

Curiously, the name Sock Revival was born from the bizarre incident when a man wearing nothing but socks began whispering ‘revival’ to the artist over and over again in a packed trolley car. An intriguing epiphany, Sock Revival now believes that socks should be worn with most shoe styles and should be as comfortable and durable as possible.

After receiving a great response to his debut album he started working on a follow up. The sophomore album, titled Socks for Lunar Summer was initially formed in 2016 when the artist began writing the music over a six month period. Shelving the songs temporarily, they were revived as a cohesive collection of music years later.

Commenting on the creation of the album, he shares, “Although it was not intentional at the time I wrote them, I felt there was a coherence to these songs that lent to an album format, and so I chose to record these instead of anything else I’ve written since then.”

Capturing the essence of stripped back vocal and guitar stars such as Elliott Smith, Neil Young and Fleet Foxes, on Socks for Lunar Summar, the artist delivers an introspective work that’s beautifully crafted. Delicate melodic vocal work sits above an intricate guitar backing to deliver a calming sound that’s thoroughly rewarding for the listener.
