UK-based independent singer-songwriter and producer Maya Yenn offers a truly unique sound that places her shimmering vocal work at the forefront with a backdrop of rhythmic alternative electronic pop. Blending elements of modern R&B with synth based sonic tapestry, her songs often feature her dark lyricism that focus on themes such as anxiety and nightmares.
Drawing inspiration from upbeat pop artists likes Glass Animals and Jungle as well as taking influence from poignant alt-R&B pioneers FKA twigs, James Blake and BANKS, she creates her own brand of grooving dark pop music. Originally she grew up in the rural area of Staffordshire before making the move to London as a teenager where she’s supported artists such as Dan Croll and Stealing Sheep.
At the start of the pandemic, she moved back to her childhood home where she’s been focusing her time on writing and producing new music. One of her new tracks was born out of that period of creativity, the new single “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?”.
Featuring her ethereal vocal delivery, on her new single she pairs electronic percussion and instrumentation to create a driving piece full of colourful melody and emotive writing. With a modern electronic pop shine, “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” offers the very best of Maya Yenn’s catchy and reflective work and once again shows her fierce originality as an artist. Paired with the single is the new music video which Maya wrote and directed herself which perfectly reflects the sound with cinematic sci-fi-esque imagery that tells the story of a women hell-bent on ending an alien invasion as she sprints through the English countryside.
