London-based producer Emeye is somewhat of an enigma. Keeping their identity and image shrouded in mystery, the artist lets the music take centre stage and truly be the main focus of the entire project.
Without any distractions to draw away from the sound, Emeye produces wickedly punchy electronic music that’s full of grooves and bouncy synth work. The perfect example is the recent track, titled “Da Da (Hi There!)”, the new tech house style cut from the artist.
Perfectly demonstrating the producer’s knack for layering sounds to create a banging rhythmic piece, the new track is full of thumping kick drum, plucked bass and rolling percussion all wrapped up in cohesive production. The main lead is a sample of a kid’s voice which instills the carefreeness of a child living in a world full of duties.
The voice was sampled by the artist in Paris during the pandemic when they were struck by the sound and wanted to use it to create a sense of the innocence of youth translated into music.
Commenting on the sample, the producer shares, “I was running errands and I approached a busy supermarket with a long queue to get in. I was there trying to get something for myself when I heard a melody from the other aisle. It was a kid with a bright smile singing in his stroller; it was the most beautiful thing in that frenetic place. I asked his mum if I could record his voice; I simply sampled it… and that became a song.”
