Indie Pop from Tarn PK

Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, artist, producer and songwriter Tarn PK creates his own unique brand of bedroom pop. With two EPs under his belt, Fantasy in 2019 and 2021’s Monarch, with the single “Daylight” released in the year between, he’s now looking to explore new sonic worlds and develop a more distinct style.

In the past he’s focused on a more stripped-back approach with his songwriting but now looks to incorporate more complex elements of hyper pop and left of centre inflections into his sound as he gears up to put together his first full-length of material. The first taste of his new direction comes with the new single “Street Noise”, marking the first foray into a more upfront sound.

On “Street Noise”, Tarn PK still holds his delicate indie pop vocal style at the core of his sound. This time however, his vocal work is backed by a more energetic soundscape of piquant electronic instrumentation to create a blissful dreamy alternative pop piece to lay the grounds for his exciting new venture into new sonic territory.

Commenting on the new single, he shares, “On ‘Street Noise’ I really wanted to make a song that felt like a journey and took you from one place and left you at another. Mixing together bedroom pop, folk, alternative and then completely switching this in the bridge was something I’d always wanted to experiment with.”

Continuing, “For me the song is about inner voices, fears and finding ways to deal with them. I really wanted to create a strong picture around the song, focused on vivid lyrics. This song is a gateway between the quieter, more inwards focused music of my last EP and something which is more bombastic and out there sonically.”
