Luna Waves is the moniker of Bedford-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rob Muir. With his sound, he offers a dark dreamy, ethereal psych rock and dream pop blend full of colourful melodically-driven writing and sonic atmosphere.
Originally influenced by 90s rock outfits such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and The Smashing Pumpkins as well as artists introduced to him by his musician father including The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, he fuses his inspirations with modern artists like Tame Impala, Kurt Vile, Daniel Johns, Ben Howard, Radiohead, Kevin Morby, Slowdive and Beach House.
After releasing his received debut album, Seafoam Dream, in 2018 he’s now back with the follow up LP titled Blood Moon. Expanding on his debut, the new album delivers more of his cinematic sound, creating an expansive exploration of spacey psychedelic modern music wrapped up in an immersive and catchy style.
Created in true DIY bedroom pop fashion, the new album was performed, recorded and produced entirely by Luna Waves himself. The result is a truly impressive collection of sixteen original compositions that ebb and flow seamlessly through a variety of energies and sounds.
Commenting on the album, he shares, “This record is a deliberate attempt to move away from traditional singer-songwriter territory and to more boldly explore other influences and ideas. Most of the songs on Blood Moon were built from loops and spacey instrumentals, rather than starting with traditional song structures.”
