The Atlanta based solo artist Joey Kirby has released his debut solo project Small Pockets. A psychedelic look into his intrinsic layered mind where he seeks to find comfort in relationships, even holding onto the memory of them.
He uses airy electronic soundscapes to portray a metaphorical journey of his loved ones’ struggles and his own and how he overcomes them. His third single “Heads or Tales”, a play on words of heads and tails, is out now. Best listened to in a blanket fort with your best friends or at a tea party with stuffed animals, the single is an infallible limb to the project Small Pockets.
Kirby is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, he works with producers and engineers Daniel Gleason and TJ Elias to construct Small Pockets which you can find on Spotify and YouTube. His focus on pure human connection matched with cloudy and light soundscapes is heart felt and an instant feel good.
The lyrics “Let’s pack our toys, go home to Figaro” emphasises the reminisces of childhood and belonging. This complements his easy approach to the project, he said he’d capture voice notes parked curb side on his phone band sometimes in the middle of the night, showing the project to be an odyssey creatively and emotionally.
