Australian artist Katanak creates his own brand of infectiously catchy grooving indie pop music. First making waves in 2021, the Brisbane-based musician released “Valentine” and linked with Koolz on his ode to summer with the jam “Sunday”.
Being picked up for airtime on Triple J Unearthed, Double J and ABC Radio as well as spins on radio all over the world on stations such as BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio he’s made a lasting impression with tastemakers and fans alike. The clip for “Sunday” was added to MTV Upload across Australia and New Zealand, with the track finishing the year at the number 24 spot on the prestigious 4ZZZZ Hot 100 Countdown.
Now with a tour underway for this year, he brings us his latest single with the fresh track “Weigh Down”. Featuring Katanak’s trademark upbeat vibe full of rhythm and ear-worm hooks, with his new single he questions the expectations we have when life weighs you down.
Channeling the confidence and swaggering pop energy of The 1975 as well as influences from outfits such as The Wombats, on “Weigh Down” he showcases the very best of his writing and performance abilities with bags of commercial appeal readily apparent.
Kept under wraps for two years, Katanak is able to share the news of his extras role as the bassist Jerry Scheff in the upcoming Elvis movie by Baz Luhrmann. Inspired by this exciting role, Katanak penned “Weigh Down” in the wake of landing the new artistic endeavour.
