Berlin-based artist Yelmur is the new alias of Dutch composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jelmer de Haan. The innovative artist draws on his expansive creative vision to weave elements of jazz, prog and modern classical music into his highly original electronic-led soundscapes.
From an early age, Yelmur began his music journey when taking classical piano lessons and went on to start his own original compositions. As a teenager he progressed to the E-bass, which he studied as a jazz degree at the prestigious music colleges of Groningen and Leipzig before moving to Berlin and honing his talents as a session bassist, playing live gigs and performing in studio sessions for a range of other artists.
It was in the German capital that he fully realised his own sonic lens, diving into a world of analog synthesisers and the vast scene of electronic music. With his own music, he puts a focus on mesmerising sound design and crafting deep and immersive sonic tapestries from unique sounds and instrumentation to create music unlike anything else out there.
Offering complex compositions that reveal new intricacies and details with each new listen, Yelmur spins ethereal musical tales that tell real-world stories of various mental health aspects. His first full-length release, the debut two-part album titled How We Hide, will have the first element released in September this year.
Ahead of the upcoming LP launch, he brings us his debut release with the new single titled “Insomnia”. Inspired by the idea of creating a modern string quartet formed of guitars and bass, he developed his introductory track by adding a synth arrangement and electronic percussion to create an otherworldly sound on a track that builds excitement around a truly original producer who’s only just getting started.
