Frank Joshua drops remix of “Rain”

London-based artist Frank Joshua has racked up a plethora of plaudits from tastemakers and industry experts for his sophisticated take on melodic pop music. Laying down his warm and soulful vocals on top of his refined modern pop arrangements, he’s won over fans and clocked tens of thousands of streams since his breakout single “Panic In The Kitchen” in 2020.

Taking influence from artists such as Prefab Sprout, Kraftwork, Prince, Jon Kennedy, George Michael, Mozez, his sonic flair saw him signed to the Numen Records imprint. So far he’s dropped a string of well-received singles and a debut full-length with the album Sense Life. Looking at one of his standout tracks from the album, the song titled “Rain”, Frank Joshua’s label sought potential remixers to add their own spin to the sound.

Linking up with UK-born, Asia-based producer Azido 88, “Rain” was given the remix treatment from a prolific artist who’s earned over 600,000 monthly Spotify listeners. Bringing his lofi style to the shiny sound of Frank Joshua initially felt like a challenge with Frank commenting, “I never thought this could work!”

Despite never speaking, let alone meeting, the pair shared audio files originally recorded at Whitelight studios in North London to allow a creative partnership that re-imagined the original track. Working with Joshua’s stunning vocal delivery and dark lyricism, Azido 88 crafts a hazy lofi hip hop take on the song that works perfectly against all odds.

Written about lost love, with rain acting as the metaphor to represent the pain of the unreciprocated, the remix lays down an exquisite collaboration that showcases the best of the artists’ respective genres with hints of a timeless James Bond theme. Now gearing up to release more remixes as well as a sophomore album, the sky is the limit for Frank Joshua as he continues his musical journey.
