Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Minhy – pronounced ‘mini’ – is a multi-award winning singer-songwriter and designer. Her life’s work is inspired by her parents’ journey as refugees to Australia following the war in Vietnam. She’s always had a creative background, having worked in automotive design and she’s now using her musical pursuits as a way to further express her artistic vision.
Last year saw her make her studio introduction with her well-received debut single “Dead Of The Night”. Making an impact straight away, the single was paired with her self-directed music video which went on to win Best Music Video at a number of prestigious international film festivals such as the LA Film Awards, New York Film Awards and the world’s top online film festival Top Shorts.
With her music, she weaves in relatable storytelling with reflective, often metaphorical lyrics. Taking influence from the likes of Alicia Keys, Grimes, Kimbra and BANKS, her sound is at the cutting edge of modern pop music that balances instantly catchy melodic writing with thoughtful and poetic lyricism.
Blending elements of contemporary pop and R&B with electronic instrumentation and carried by her soaring vocal lines, Minhy shines a welcome light on the good in life and finds meaning in the dark. Now she’s back with her sophomore single and her first release of the year with the new track “Entangled”.
Laying down a dreamy and immersive soundscape, her latest cut offers an original sound that sits perfectly at the crossroads between artists James Blake and H.E.R. A snapping beat drives the energy while a delicate piano arrangement spins a beautiful and harmonic backing to Minhy’s soulful vocal work.
Written as a love song that nods to the deep connections between everyone and how all actions can be significant to others, Minhy penned the song while exploring quantum entanglement, the scientific phenomenon that notes the strong link between two particles. Collaborating with the talented producer SB90 who’s previous credits include Illy, KLP and Thandi Phoenix, on “Entangled” the pair create a hypnotic vibe that’s both infectious and captivating.
Commenting on the new single, she shares, “I wrote this song whilst exploring quantum entanglement, the strange scientific phenomenon where two particles are so intimately linked, what happens to one affects the other, even if separated by billions of light-years of space. I saw this as a metaphor for love – being so deeply connected with someone that individual identity is lost and replaced with something more than the sum of its parts.”
