London-based singer-songwriter Amie Jay has been combining her writing, poetry and music since just five years old, creating moving stories that needed to be shared. Continuing to develop her artistic pursuit throughout her youth, she went on to study Music and Dance at University before embarking on her a journey to bring her creative vision to life.
Taking influence from artists such as Alanis Morissette, Dermot Kennedy, Valley, Kllo and Lana Del Rey, Amie Jay weaves deep meaning through storytelling in her lyricism to craft emotive songs wrapped up in a catchy indie pop sound. Offering an intimate connection to her listeners by tackling relatable themes in her writing, she’s become an artist that offers not just an engaging musical experience, but a truly authentic one.
Over the last two years, she’s released five well-received singles including her latest song “Sweet Nostalgia”. Now she brings us her brand new EP titled Cancer Sun. Released today, the new EP features four of Amie Jay’s original tracks that showcase her commanding songwriting talent and vocal prowess, tied together in perfect arrangements.
Owing to its title, the EP takes a look a the stereotypes of a Cancer zodiac sign and explores a different facet and emotion with each song, outlined by a fluid shift in genres to reflect; wrathful, people-pleasing, nostalgic and resilient.
Commenting on the EP, Amie Jay shares, “Writing the EP felt so authentic and natural. Even though it had a theme of the stereotypes of my zodiac sign, the theme is all of the elements that make up who I am, so there didn’t feel like any pressure to make it a certain way, it was just right.”
Adding, “‘Cancer Sun’ showcases all different sides of me – both as a person and an artist. I teamed up with various producers, meaning that each song is individual in its style and production, too.”
