Based between the hustle and bustle of London and the peaceful countryside of Devon, Lemonade Sin is the musical project of artists Lee Friese-Greene and Simon Aldous. Formerly members of the outfits Sidi Bou Said and Umbrella Heaven, they’ve now combined to create their own style of dreamy alternative pop music.
Citing their main influences as ABBA and The Velvet Underground, they offer a classic male/female duet sound. Making their introduction as Lemonade Sin in 2019, they released their debut EP Fairground Distraction which they followed with their sophomore EP Lost Days two years later.
This year sees the pair undertake their most ambitious project to date with the launch of their first full length release with the album Anagrams. Dropping lead singles “Melanie Nods” and “Solemn Diane” in the build up to the record, they now share the full LP featuring nine original compositions, all of which are titled as anagrams of Lemonade Sin, which is itself an anagram of ‘Lee and Simon’.
Bending from disco to shoegaze to grunge, with their debut album they deliver a comprehensive journey through their creative vision. Full of duelling, call and response vocal lines, breezy guitar work and retro synth tones, across Anagrams, they lay down a rich sound of their timeless songwriting.
The album was recorded and mixed at Penquit Mill studio in Devon by Lucy and Matt Board, who are also two thirds of the band Pale Blue Eyes and ply their musicianship on all of the album’s tracks. With their delicate harmonic writing, Lemonade Sin spin a charming and memorable sound throughout their worthy debut album effort.
