Las Vegas-based 7KY (pronounced as ‘sky’) is the alias of a twenty two year old singer-songwriter, producer and composer who focuses on futuristic sounds that span from stunning alien-like piano ballads to psychedelic pop and EDM style tracks. Offering a truly cinematic sound, he crafts immersive soundscapes that are as ethereal as they are engrossing.
Using his sonic brush to paint vivid and enchanting audio worlds, 7KY’s sound blends airy synth work with snapping percussion to create an entirely original style. Maintaining the familiarities of pop-centric song structure and writing, with his sound design and arrangements, he spins tracks that surprise and charm with their unique sound.
Since making his introduction as 7KY last year with his debut single “Vampire Summer”, he’s followed up with five well-received tracks as well as his debut record Ordinary Alien earlier this year. Now he’s back with a brand new single titled “TERRIBLE THINGS”.
Linking up with singer-songwriter Avonlea – who’s clocked millions of streams of her music and worked with the likes of Atlantic Records, Art Club and Billboard – on “TERRIBLE THINGS” the pair weave a first person story of two free-spirited people having the most otherworldly tryst of their lives.
Commenting on the creation of the track, 7KY shares, “This song sort of started out as a joke between me and my co-writer Bret Martin. We are constantly bouncing lyrics back and forth to each other as we go about our days, and one day he sent me a text that said āNice to meet you, Iāve heard terrible thingsā. I love lyrics that make me tilt my head, but at first I didnāt know if I liked it. I spent some time repeating and imagining it in a song, to which in a couple hours I came to the conclusion that it was a genius line.”
Adding, “When we got together I spent a few hours trying different instrumentals for the lyric. I then came across my most recent beat and as soon as I hit play we looked at each other and something clicked, the song seemed to write itself in an hour from there – almost like it was just waiting to be found.
This was our fastest writing session ever and within 2 hours I had the whole thing recorded ready to show Avonlea for her part. The next day I played her the song, she loved it, recorded her part and knocked it out in 30 minutes.”
Laying down a spacey sonic scene full of delicate vocal leads and fluttery synth lines, 7KY and Avonlea combine to create an elegant electronic dream pop cut on “TERRIBlE THINGS”.
