Holozoa is the new music project that came about during late night immersive theatre tech rehearsals in 2019 involving the London-based sound designer and composer Lex Kosanke and the Sheffield-based performer and director Lauren Partridge. Over the pandemic, the pair were forced to move their creative process to the ether and collaborate online where they’ve been working on their dark pop songs that seek to capture the drama of the dance floor.
Taking influence from an eclectic blend of artists including Kate Bush, Robyn, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Moderat and Jon Hopkins, Holozoa craft mesmeric songs in equal parts energetic and atmospheric. Last year saw them unveil their project with their first release, the three-track EP Lore which featured “Wych”, “Control” and “Icaruses”, showcasing their original take on electronic pop music.
Striking a chord with fans and tastemakers straight off the bat, Lore earned the duo radio spins on BBC Introducing Sheffield, while “Control” was featured in Out Now Magazine’s Top 50 songs playlist. While they’ve never played the Glastonbury as Holozoa, an early version of “Wych” was played by Lex during one of his DJ sets at the iconic festival.
Now they’re back with their latest release and their sophomore EP titled Exhale. Featuring five new original tracks, with their new work, Holozoa push the boundary of their unique creative vision even further.
Written during lockdown and recorded and produced in their respective homes in London and Sheffield, Exhale showcases Holozoa’s inspiring synth-driven pop sound. Full of grooving rhythms, pulsating synth lines and soaring vocal leads, with their latest EP, the duo demonstrate both their knack for writing infectious electro pop music as well as their penchant for creating something entirely new.
