Since last year, Texas-based award winning multi-instrumentalist and producer Tim Husmann has been showcasing his solo artistic vision via the 1st Base Runner project. Combining elements of shoegaze and nostalgic dark wave music with an array of analogue synthesisers, he crafts moving songs full of emotion and powerful sentiments.
While his sound offers a familiar sonic framing of modern pop style, his writing maintains an air of unpredictability that makes his music original and always surprising. Unveiling the 1st Base Runner project in 2021 when artist released his debut single with “Break Even”, he’s followed up his first effort with a debut album and two EPs.
Most recently, his new EP titled Lights Roars expands on his earlier works by adding live drums and a grittier energy. Lifted from the EP, released via the artist’s own imprint and distribution company Souvenir Sound, is the release’s closing track “Planter”, a smoky uptempo post-punk anthem.
Continuing under the guidance of legendary Radiohead creative director Dilly Gent, 1st Base Runner showcases the new music video for “Planter” directed by frequent collaborator Heath Gildroy. Pairing abstract shots with hazy monochromatic scenes, the music video perfectly captures the visual essence of “Planter”, adding to an already exhilarating listening experience from a truly exciting artist.
