Crystal Box releases debut album

Based in New Orleans, Crystal Box is the studio project of producer and composer Bodhi Landa. Originally hailing from Austin, Texas, the artist grew up playing in indie bands and watching live shows at punk venues before heading to study Art History and French at Bard College where he became involved in booking shows at the the legendary DIY venue called SMOG.

After college he lived in Brooklyn where he played in Phone Tag and Class Actress before eventually making the move to New Orleans and working on his new sonic endeavour Crystal Box. Taking inspiration from deconstructed club sounds, alternative R&B and hyperpop music, his own music offers a spacey synth-based pop sound unlike any other.

Earlier this year he unveiled his wildly original sound with the release of his debut single titled “|| control ||”, followed up by his sophomore release with a collaborative track with Los Angeles-based Romantic Thriller, who he also produces for. Now he brings us his most ambitious release to date with his debut album Bad Art.

Featuring nine original tracks, Crystal Box’s first record offers the perfect run through of his experimental pop vision. Full of electronic beats, euphoric synth swells and the artist’s floaty whirling vocal work, Bad Art offers a cohesive and transportive listening experience that centres on the origins of creative anxiety with nods to the path of recovery.

Titled as a reference to the journey of mistakes and unworthy work on the road to creating something exceptional, Crystal Box’s debut album showcases his stunning atmospheric sound as he continues to evolve as an artist.
