After meeting in a coffeeshop in Seattle, artists Brannen Graves and Colin Drake formed the music duo that would become known as hangtime. Taking influence from the likes of the Prodigy, Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, J Dilla and Nujabes, they’ve earned a reputation for their knack for fusing together different sonic styles to create their own unique and cohesive style.
Over the last year, they’ve been sharing their wildly creative vision with the world via a string of releases that showcase their fierce originality and production talents. Since making their debut with the EP YELLOWSKY, they’ve dropped two full-length records and multiple EPs and singles which all serve to demonstrate their ability to take contrasting genres and splice them together in seamless fashion.
A career-defining work, their most recent album Right2Repair saw hangtime mix their hip hop and alternative influences on a stunning thirteen track release. Now they bring us their latest release with the three-track EP titled Walls.
Recorded in New Mexico, Walls opens with the title track followed by “NFZ” and “Saturate”, with each track laying down a hard-hitting fusion of glitchy and complex sounds capped by Brannen’s lofty vocal leads. With Walls, hangtime deliver an energising and powerful sound, on a release that shows the next step in their fascinating sonic evolution.
