Minnesota-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Nate Mueller makes dreamy synth pop music under the Oacoma alias. Drawing on his sense of wonder growing up, raising a family of his own and coming back home, he crafts rich storytelling songs that offer sonic elegance and feelings of nostalgia with his echanting lyricism.
Taking influence from a wide array of different artists and styles, classic synth-pop acts such Tears for Fears and the Cars to more contemporary artists like Lume, the War on Drugs, Bon Iver, and Mansionair, as Oacoma, the artist blends synth-led sonic tapestries beneath his delicate floating vocal work.
Originally started as a lockdown project, he unveiled the Oacoma moniker with the release of his three-track debut EP in 2020 titled Lost which he’s since followed up with a string of singles, collaborating with other artists such as Elizabeth Maniscalco and Aaron Sprinkle along the way.
With one of his recent releases, he linked up with talented producer Zara Kershaw to work on the single “Make you mine” with mixing and mastering duties handled by Miike Snow and Odesza collaborator Rob Murray. Weaving a blissful soundscape of washy PAD synths, peppered with plucky lead tones and capped by Oacoma compelling vocal work, with “Make you mine” the artist shares a stunning chillwave track.
Ditching all acoustic instruments to explore a new side to his sound, Oacoma blends a Moog synthesiser with and a handful of other vintage 80s synths to craft a captivating arrangement. Recorded between Minneapolis and Zara’s studio in London via the internet, “Make you mine” was written by the artist about the touching story of the girl he had a crush on in college that ended up being his wife.
