Based between Los Angeles and New York, max pretends is a French singer-songwriter who draws on his musical theatre background and his studies of music for the moving image to craft his own rare take on pop music. After starting to write his own original compositions in his college dorm room, he interned as an audio engineer for The Voice in Australia before returning to the USA to pursue music as a solo artist.
Finding success as a topline vocalist for leading EDM producers across Europe he’s more recently turned his sights on his own work. Taking influence from artists such as Ed Sheeran and Ryan Tedder, paired with his work in the EDM world, he offers a hook-driven pop sound unlike any other.
Making his introduction last year with his debut single “All Falls Down”. Followed up by his well-received debut EP titled One Day I’ll Know, he’s been going from strength-to-strength and racking up hundreds of thousands of streams as he lays out his original indie pop sound filtered through his unique sonic lens.
Now he brings us his brand new single to premiere on Plastic Magazine with “Alone” released today. Full of rhythmic guitar work and carried by max’s emotive and charming vocal delivery, his new single is testament to his talent as a songwriter as well as his performance panache.
Infectiously catchy, dramatic and delicately emphatic, max pretends shares an intimate song written about finding yourself alone after caring for someone deeply. His aching and impassioned sentiments shine through in his sultry vocals on a nigh-on impeccable pop single from an artist who continues his rise in the music world.
Commenting on the single, he shares, “this song was written about jealousy, it was written about someone you truly care for and consider family but sometimes that same person can be the one dragging you down.”
