Making his introduction as a solo artist, in 2016 he released his debut record with the album titled special which he followed up with an incredible three further full-length releases that year. Since last year he’s dropped a string of singles and the EP Chimera which demonstrate the true breadth of his creativity as he meanders through various different iterations of the traditional singer-songwriter sound, racking up millions of streams of his music along the way.
Turning the heads of fans and tastemakers alike, his singles such as “Fake Me” and “Wanna Say” have been featured in outlets such as Wonderland and Clash Magazine amongst others. With his third single of 2022, he brings us the brand new track titled “Johnnycakes” released today.
Spinning a melancholic and atmospheric alternative pop sound, with “Johnnycakes” Richard Orofino lays down a delicate indie anthem co-written with longtime friend and producer Christian Taylor. With Richard Orofino offering a lullaby baritone guitar arrangement with his restrained vocal delivery carrying emotive lyrics via beautiful melodies, Taylor caps the sound with an array of mesmeric synth tones.
Leaning into a slow burning sound that builds to an emphatic and dreamy crescendo, with “Johnnycakes”, the artist showcases his extraordinary songwriting talent and knack for crafting a lasting impression with his music. Commenting on the single, he shares, “Johnnycakes is about deeply desiring something you know you shouldn’t have. Whether it’s in that moment or for good, it’s a really tough reality to grasp either way.”
