Hailing from Australia, StarAV is the artistic alias of the singer-songwriter, producer and digital designer making his own unique style of music that flows between ambient, wave, electronic and shoegaze styles with pop music tinges. As an artist with firm beliefs of accepting all facets of oneself, whether that’s good or bad, he threads a rare sense of authenticity into his writing.
A self-taught musician, he honed his sonic skills while gaining qualifications in digital design and now heads the Nondescript Music Group collective to bring his creative vision to fruition while taking influence from the likes of Radiohead, Beach House and Arca. Often collaborating with other artists, he’s previously worked with the likes of Faithloss, SoMuchSoul, kirk and Venice Lockjaw on his tracks.
Now he brings us EP from last year, titled The End. The EP sees StarAV cover five tracks by different artists, with originals from Kanye West with Frank Ocean, Thundercat, Kirin J Callinan, Yung Lean and Radiohead all being reimagined by the artist.
Carefully curated due to the songs covering themes of growth, loss, grief, death and isolation, all framed in the context of self-regulation through music, The End lays down a shimmering tribute to the healing power of music. Crafting a sound that sits towards the more ambient pop side of StarAV’s sonic spectrum, the artist weaves delicate and atmospheric soundscapes led by lofty piano and vocal leads.
Originally only meant to be produced in a few weeks, the project ended up being created over the course of the year, being revisited sporadically to ensure it delivered a sound that would stand the test of time. Performed and produced by StarAV himself, the EP was recorded and mixed at Hosea Creative by Tim Evans and mastered by Juan of powerestudios with each song flowing perfectly into the next on a worthy covers release that both pays respect to the original compositions while breathing new life into them via StarAV’s unique style.
