Hailing from London, producer and musician Michael Pybus makes electronic music under the moniker Big in Borneo. Originally starting his musical journey playing drums and alto saxophone when he was at school, more recently he discovered electronic music production and embarked on a new sonic path.
In his living room studio in Crouch End in North London, he creates all his own work after having visited his talented DJ brother in Australia and being encouraged to reignite his passion for making music. Taking influence from artists such as Four Tet, Bicep and TSHA, he instills his music with emotion and uses his love of human instrumentation to add warm organic touches to his sound.
Dropping his debut release in 2020 with the single “Orangutan” he followed it up with three new tracks throughout last year. However at the start of 2022, he began suffering with anxiety and a resulting lack of creativity.
After seeking help and getting a prescription for Sertraline, his creative spark was once again burning bright and produced an EP that takes its name from the drug that helped him. Bringing us the three-track EP Sertraline, he shares an uplifting electronic sound full of blissful smoky atmosphere, delicate rhythms and reverb-drenched synth lines carrying stunning melodic writing.
Across the tracks, “Your Kiss”, “How it Feels” and title song “Sertraline”, Big in Borneo lays down an immersive, beat-driven journey that inspires the listener and encourages them to never be scared to ask for help and open up.
