Coming out of the Chicago area, Erik Evy is a rising hip hop artist who’s sonic mission is to constantly challenge his fans with new styles, sounds and fresh concepts for each release. Taking influence from artists such as Mac Miller, J Cole, Andre 3000, he threads his intelligent lyrical writing to cover every emotion and capture what it means to be human.
Attending weekly open mic nights as well as a recent show at Subterranean in Chicago, he takes every possible opportunity to play his music live. With his studio music, he made his introduction in 2020 with his debut single “If My Boss Hears” which he followed with a bunch of singles and a remix of his first track by Juss Law.
Sharing his first full-length release last year, with the twelve-track album titled Periscopes, he now brings us the next chapter of his sonic vision with his new EP Matinee. Featuring four new tracks, his first EP sees the artist flex his experimental muscles, creating a minimal sound using mostly drums and piano, he crafts a chilled backdrop for his laid back vocals to flow.
Recorded in his bedroom studio with production by Lucas Quinn, Alanfor and Zanto, on Matinee Erik Evy drops a breezy vibe that lets his reflective songwriting fly. With the stripped back arrangements he nods to a lo-fi hip hop style on a worthy EP that helps stake his claim as a modern musical orator and rap talent to watch going forward.
Commenting on the EP, he shares, “I wanted this to sound like a stroll through the park, and I wanted to have a minimal feel, very stripped back so my lyrics are able to hit hardest. This EP is about my journey becoming an independent adult and getting more professional with my musical approach.”
