Originally coming from Colombia, Camilo Toston is the London-based artist and producer behind the Departure alias. Infused with personal moments, he crafts music that’s full of delicate beats and spacious sonic tapestries that weave together to build captivating electronic soundscapes.
Last year he gave the first taste of his style with a remix of the LONGLIGHT track “Choppy Water”, before unveiling his own original sound with his debut single titled “Hipocampo”. Returning this year, he rolled out more of his highly original creative vision with a string of four captivating new singles and now brings us his latest release with his new track “Perrenque”.
Taking influence from the likes of Janus Rasmussen, Kiasmos, Solomun, Ben Böhmer and Bonobo, with his new single Departure further explores a deep electronic sound that strikes a piquant balance between warm organic tones and synth-based digital touches.
Taking the song’s title from a uniquely Colombian term that covers meanings such as bravery, courage, relentlessness, hopefulness and dedication, “Perrenque” serves as a touching tribute to the artist’s sister who embodies the very sense of the word through life.
Spinning an elegant downtempo sound driven by a laid back beat and lifted by spliced vocal samples and colourful instrumentation peppering intricate shots from the bass to the top end, on “Perrenque” Departure lays down an immersive and mesmerising new song as he continues to go from strength-to-strength with each new release.
