Hailing from the Canadian city of Hamilton, Burn The Louvre is an indie music duo that features vocalists and guitarists Jordan Speare and Sean Cooper. Initially started as a solo project by Jordan, who was venturing out as an artist on his own for the first time, he received an email in response to a ‘Musicians Wanted’ Kijiji advert that he’d forgotten to take down and met up with Sean to talk about the sonic endeavour.
Commenting on their friendship, Jordan shares, “The fact that he even showed up for that beer was enough to impress me. We hit it off and the next week, we got together to jam and he impressed me a whole lot more. The way he came up with his own unique leads to songs that were already recorded, giving them different nuances while maintaining the vibe of each song… I felt this was a perfect opportunity to re-imagine Burn The Louvre as a duo and I am very happy he wanted to be a part of this.”
After releasing the debut Post-Romance EP in 2014 and sophomore EP We’ll Be Just Fine three years later, still as a solo act Jordan started work on the most ambitious Burn The Louvre work to date. Linking up with producer Micky Ellsworth, lead guitarist and bass player Andrew Billone of Silvertone Hills and singer-songwriter Stephanie Deshane, he laid the foundations for the first full-length record titled Silhouettes.
Featuring eleven tracks, all released one by one each month throughout 2022 as singles, Silhouettes is a magnificent foray into the progressive folk rock sphere. Full of carefully crafted arrangements of expertly performed instrumentation, across Silhouettes Burn The Louvre showcase their songwriting talent and vocal prowess with song after song of instantly memorable music that maintain an accessible familiarity while pushing the boundaries of the style.
From the opening title track “Silhouettes”, inspired by The Last Shadow Puppets and the demise of Jordan Speare’s first relationship through to a delightful duet with Stephanie Deshane on “Alison” to the tropical tones of album closer “Honolulu”, the Silhouettes record charms and inspires to make a stunning and truly worthy first album.
On the tenth single and title song “Silhouettes”, Jordan offers, “I am a huge fan of The Last Shadow Puppets, so they inspired the mood and the music. I had the chord progression with all the little hammer-ons for “Silhouettes” figured out a few months prior to me and my first girlfriend breaking up back when I was 24 and then when it finally happened, I wrote the lyrics to this and finished the whole song in a matter of days. It was actually extremely therapeutic to organise my thoughts like that, I didn’t really even have to go back and edit this one much, my 1st draft was almost spot-on.”
