Hailing from the city of Pistoia in Italy, artist Fabio Pocci makes progressive folk music under the Phomea moniker. Taking influence from artists such as Radiohead, Bon Iver and The Notwist, the Tuscan musician makes the indie folk and electronica worlds collide in a spectacular extravaganza of intimate music.
For a decade he’s been sharing his dazzling and highly personal sonic vision since the release of his debut EP La Stessa Condizione in 2012. Taking a hiatus from releasing studio music during a period in which he supported artists including Beach House and Marco Parente, he returned seven years later with his first full-length record titled Annie, which was followed by three singles in the build up to his most ambitious artistic project to date.
During the pandemic, Phomea set about creating his new twelve-track album Me And My Army, enlisting the talented of twenty creatives including musicians Alessandro Fiori and Flavio Ferri. Sharing his magnum opus, he delivered a record that transcends musical boundaries – and language – which showcases the depth of his enduring songwriting talent.
Lifted from the new album is the second single and opening track called “Take Control”, offering the perfect taste of the LP and Phomea as a truly original artist. Framed by the context of the artist’s quest to explore the question of ‘what is human?’, on “Take Control” Phomea crafts an otherworldly folktronica piece that captures the delicate relationship between a singer and his guitar.
Wrapped up in a swirling soundscape of electronic textures, with “Take Control” Phomea opens a truly spellbinding new record and confirms his name as an orator of the indie folk genre.
