London-based, Irish singer-songwriter James WLDE instills his music with intimate and personal lyricism, offering a rare sense of true authenticity that’s resonated with fans. Coming from strong musical heritage, he’s also the nephew of international musical sensation Sinead O’Connor and while it’s clear that sonic talent runs in their family, James is on a journey he’s forged himself.
Taking influence from artists such as Frank Ocean, Bjork, Kate Bush and Radiohead, it was Ocean’s record Blonde that especially inspired James who adored the unique and chaotic nature of the album. It was that formidable combination of appealing harmonic writing with bold and aggressive tones that left a lasting impression on the artist when crafting his own sonic vision.
Unleashing his sound, he captured that essence with the release of his debut single “So Sweet” last year. Making an impression with listeners and tastemakers around the world, landing spots in multiple playlists and racking up tens of thousands of streams, he returned in 2022 with his sophomore track titled “the curse (help myself)”.
Now he brings us his third single to premiere the brand new song titled “ISSUES”. Laying down his gritty alternative pop sound, his new single sees his emotionally-charged writing spin his post-pandemic feelings into a captivating sound.
Packed full of pounding percussion, moody vocal delivery and a piquant blend of powerful bass and grainy synth swells, “ISSUES” offers a modern anthem that covers themes of existential fears, relationship struggles, mental health and life in the modern world. Drawing in the listener with a minimalistic arrangement, “ISSUES” erupts into a storming half-time chorus of distorted vocals dripping in angsty attitude before delivering an outro switch up of dance-focused energy.
With “ISSUES”, James WLDE makes a daring statement on a spectacular new single that showcases his talent as a songwriting and confirms the hype around an exciting new artist on the rise.
