Mäle, the brainchild of Italian songwriter and singer Alessandro Medri and British/Canadian multi-platinum producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Krompass, have made their debut with “Lost in Paradise”. The first single from their upcoming full-length record, the track fuses Italian melodrama and British elegance to create an intense alternative rock experience.
Recorded and mixed at BASE Culture Studios in Sheffield, UK, and written in Italy at Accademia 49, the upcoming album features 10 tracks that showcase the band’s versatility and musical prowess. Mäle’s sound is an intense blend of heavy riffs, soaring melodies, and emotionally charged lyrics.
“Lost in Paradise” is a perfect example of Mäle’s unique sound. The song begins with a haunting atmosphere that sets the mood for the entire track. Medri’s vocals enter with a raw and emotional intensity that immediately draws the listener in.
As the song progresses, the guitar work adds depth and complexity to the arrangement, creating a powerful wall of sound. The chorus of “Lost in Paradise” is catchy and anthemic, with Medri’s vocals soaring over a driving beat that will have fans pumping their fists and singing along.
Overall, “Lost in Paradise” is an impressive debut from Mäle. The band’s unique sound and raw energy are sure to appeal to fans of alternative rock. With a full-length album on the way, Mäle is definitely a band to keep an eye on in 2023.
We caught up with lead singer and guitarist Alessandro Medri to find out more about the new project, their debut single “Lost in Paradise” and what they’ve got lined up for the future. Check out our interview with Mäle’s Alessandro Medri below.
Hey Alessandro, how’s things?
Hello and thank you for this opportunity! We’re currently busy with all the tasks that a debut band needs to do in order to avoid getting lost in the vortex. It’s an exciting time, even though it’s not a new experience for any of us.
What has been the biggest highlight for Mäle so far?
We’ve only released one song so far, but we’re thrilled with the response we’re seeing on platforms like Youtube and Spotify. At the moment, after just one month, we have over 218k views on YouTube and 26k+ on Spotify, and we have been included in more than 90 playlists.
So, how did you first get into making your own music?
We’re all experienced musicians, so our journeys started a long time ago. As for me (Alessandro, the singer), I started making music at a very young age, when I was just 16. My first band was a reggae band, where I played guitar and composed music. We lasted for over 15 years and achieved great results during that time, touring the entire Italian peninsula with a huge fanbase, thanks to the attention of the main Italian radio stations and countless gigs.
After that, in 2014, I joined Figure Of Six as a singer and composer. It was a huge jump from reggae to metalcore, but I followed my heart, and it was an amazing experience, even though it was short-lived. We broke up in 2018, and at that time, I had a lot of songs that I had written with my acoustic guitars and left inside a folder. I spent my entire life writing songs for “projects” with specific genres and standards, and I felt that the time had come to create something new based on my own songs. So, with my friends Jonathan Montalti and Matteo Troiano (Creep and Figure Of Six), we started pre-producing six tracks.
In the meantime, I got to know Mike Krompass, and I was blown away by his amazing career, expertise, skills, and unique style. So, I plucked up the courage to ask him if he would be open to be the producer, and to my delight, he accepted. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such an exceptional musician and producer.
Which artist first made a lasting impression on you?
To be honest, my musical influences are all over the place. For songwriting, I’ve always looked up to artists like John Mayer and Fink.
As a singer, I’m inspired by a whole range of artists and styles, from Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington to Jeff Buckley, Jared Leto, Freddy Mercury, Jamie Cullum… It’s amazing to be able to learn from such talented musicians!
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from today?
Right now, Bring Me The Horizon might just be the top band on the global scene. They’ve got lyrics that really hit deep, plus an underground, experimental sound that’s both futuristic and mainstream. In a time where revivals (think Greta Van Fleet, Måneskin, THE WKND, and so on) are all the rage, BMTH represent the evolution and future of the rock genre.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
Overthinking. It’s a problem, but for every problem, there’s a solution. Making music is my favorite way to channel the excess energy into something useful and hopefully beautiful.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
It’s energetic music with a lot of philosophical themes involved in the lyrics, so it works perfectly when you’re travelling around the city with public transportation, or when you’re driving your car, and in all those moments when you can turn on autopilot and be alone with yourself, truthfully and honestly.
How did you find making your debut single “Lost in Paradise”?
In late 2016, I wrote the lyrics and melody for “Lost In Paradise” as part of a competition hosted by Sumerian Records. The competition involved an instrumental song being released and hundreds of singers and songwriters competing to create the best composition and performance. Some incredibly talented singers participated, including Andy Cizek, the current singer for Monument. Although I didn’t win, I was really in love of what I wrote, and I promised myself that I would produce it no matter what. Finally, in 2020, I was able to work with Mike to bring it to life. “Lost In Paradise” is a song that I truly love and relate to, and I’m so grateful to Mike for producing it to perfection.
What was the message you wanted to get across with this song?
It addresses the feeling of “nothingness” that arises when we contemplate the idea of floating and drifting in space, similar to the sensation of free-falling in an elevator or the turmoil of leaving or loving someone, that feeling in your stomach appearing in different scenarios.
I open my eyes, i’m floating in space
I wonder why i pray
So old, i’m feeling so small
That i do not recall
Why i’m here, why i fear
So please forgive me
Leave me here, leave me please
To Lose myself in this obsession
I pray when I sing, I feel like I’m floating in the air, because that’s what music does, it makes you forget where you are. It can be scary, because gravity disappears and you feel so small when you’re immersed in an infinite space. But at the same time, it’s beautiful, and there’s nowhere else you’d rather be. It’s like love, which makes the ground disappear from under your feet and is so vast that it can be frightening at times.
What can listeners expect from your upcoming music?
There’s a lot in store. I can’t reveal the exact number of tracks, but the new album will be packed with energy, featuring a diverse range of styles. We’ve got grunge, electro, heavy, sentimental, rough, technical, futuristic, and even some fun and mystical elements thrown in there. It’s going to be an exciting and unique listening experience.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
I’m currently very amazed by Sleep Token. I love the concept and I hope the anonymity will endure till the end of the project or at least evolve in a simple and profound way.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
30 Seconds to Mars, Bring Me The Horizon, Tool in my local football arena
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Work with people you love and respect.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of 2023?
The plan is classified for now 😀 but we’re coming with more music. We’re ready and we can’t wait.
