London-based producer Throwing Snow has put his unique twist on Neil MacLeod‘s single “Downwards” in a remix that combines cinematic grandeur with deconstructed club music. The remix is the third in a series of remixes of tracks from Macleod’s record We Have Known Lost Days, a project that brings together a host of producers from New Zealand and Europe.
Throwing Snow’s production skills are well-known, having released a string of well-received EPs and 12″ singles since 2007 on labels like Local Action, Ho Tep, Sneaker Social Club, and Houndstooth. His remixes of tracks by Gold Panda, Heathered Pearls, and Ital Tek have also been widely praised. He’s a graduate of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in New York and has played Boiler Room sets, supported Bonobo on tour, and played alongside Atoms for Peace and Jon Hopkins.
His remix of “Downwards” is an example of his skills as a producer, beginning with a dramatic build-up of layers and mind-whirling effects, which give the track a powerful and cinematic feel. The original melody is transformed by a deep warmth and glistening crispness, which, combined with the thudding beats, produce a truly enticing and alluring sound.
The Throwing Snow remix is a fitting addition to Neil MacLeod’s latest project, and an example of the talented producers who have contributed their talents. Throwing Snow has managed to take MacLeod’s original song and turn it into something entirely new, demonstrating his unique approach to remixing with a completely captivating spin on the track.
